Frank Hoppmann

. . . was born in 1975 in Emsland, Germany and grew up there. From 1996 to 2002 he studied design at the Münster University of Applied Sciences, specializing in drawing, illustration and printmaking. Between 1998 and 2008 he worked as a court illustrator for print and television media, among other things. His diploma thesis was entitled “Spirits lovers have many faces” and was completed in 2002.

From 2003 to 2014 Hoppmann worked as an illustrator for ROLLING STONE magazine. In 2005 he met the well-known artist Tomi Ungerer for the first time. From 2005 to 2016 he regularly drew for DIE WELT and WELT AM SONNTAG. In 2016 he created an award-winning and internationally published portrait of Donald Trump, which appeared in the LOS ANGELES TIMES, among others.

Frank Hoppmann has received numerous awards, including the World Press Cartoon Award in Lisbon, the German Cartoon Prize in Dresden and the Grand Thomas Nast Prize. Further honors came from the Art Directors Club Germany, the SOCIETY FOR NEWS DESIGN in Orlando and 3×3 magazine in New York.

His works have been shown in national and international exhibitions, including the Tomi Ungerer Museum in Strasbourg, the Caricatura Museum Frankfurt, the Caricature Museum Krems, the Wilhelmshöhe Palace in Kassel, the Vejle Art Museum in Denmark, the Horst Janssen Museum in Oldenburg, the Bomann Museum in Celle and the Goethe Institute in Paris.

Today Frank Hoppmann lives and works as a freelance painter, draftsman and illustrator in Münster, North Rhine-Westphalia.
